2012 Summer Sessions - learn to kayak with TCC

Free Taster Session - 31st March 2012

If you're thinking of giving Kayaking a go, please do come along and try it out at the free taster session.
The taster session is on the 31st March from 10.30-1pm and will be on the River Dart just above Totnes weir. Contact the enrollments officer () for further details.

Before then, you're most welcome to come along to one of our pool sessions to have a try in a kayak in a warm pool environment! We meet at the Totnes Pavilions at 5pm on the last Saturday of each month. The first trial session is free.

Evening Sessions & Courses (starting 23rd/24th April)

Our 2012 summer evening sessions are on Monday and Tuesday evenings on the River Dart at Totnes and run from April to August, with a break for the Whitsun bank holiday.

The dates are:

Our courses are run by qualified BCU coaches. Included in the cost of the Tuesday sessions is the chance of assessment for the B.C.U. 1 to 3 Star Tests.

Monday evenings are aimed at children aged 8-14 though there are no hard upper age limits. Tuesday evenings are for adults and children aged 12+ though we can sometimes accept slightly younger children if accompanied by a responsible adult.

Canoes, Kayaks and all equipment except for clothing are provided. Adults, families and juniors from age 8 upward are all welcome.

Paddlers should arrive at the KEVICC Elmhurst site car park between 6.00 and 6.15 for registration and to allow for time to get changed. If you haven't attended before please contact the enrollments officer ( ) to check spaces are available.

In order to ensure continuity of training, courses consist of blocks of six sessions each, with the first six weeks commencing in April. Once the maximum number of boats is reached the sessions will be deemed full. However, if any session has spaces due to non-arrival of people with pre-booked tickets then day tickets will be made available. Note that if you have not registered before 6.30 on any Tuesday evening it is likely that the boatshed will be locked and you will not be able to paddle, whether or not you have pre-booked tickets. Coaches will be unable to return to the shed once their training sessions are underway, and unclaimed places may well have been released to day paddlers. If you have your own boat and kit then the cap of boat numbers does not apply, but you still need to pay!

Cost of training for the Summer Evening sessions

One block of six consecutive training sessions costs £30.00 for children under 16, or £36 for adults, whether in your own boat or a Club boat. Missed sessions cannot be refunded. Forms for the first block of lessons starting in April must be completed and returned to the club's enrollments officer in April. Forms can be found online and will also be available at the taster session on 31st March. See the Club Membership page for complete instructions.

Social Paddle

For Club Members with their own boat and kit and who have reached two star level but who don't wish to train for their three star qualification, there can be a social paddle on Monday evenings which will not be part of the formal training programme. A social paddle with your own boat and kit is free of charge to members - but you can't join a training group

Sit-on-Tops

The Club is actively encouraging people with sit-on-tops to come along and join. The BCU 1-star qualifications are valid for sit-ons and the Club can help you to achieve the skills required for getting the most from your boat.
