Tom Gray

Qualifications:

Coaching: Kayak and Canoe Coach (Sheltered Water)

  Leadership: White Water Kayak Leader

I have been paddling with Totnes Canoe Club since 2013 starting on a beginner course and now as a club coach.

Summer months bring the chance to paddle on rivers and estuaries, and of course there is always time to have some fun at Bantham in the surf and rock-hopping around Burgh Island.

Summer also brings the pleasure of coaching with the club, and I can often be found on a Monday evening leading sessions with the juniors, some having a taste of paddling for the first time.

When winter arrives so too does the opportunity for experiencing the white water and we are very lucky to have the River Dart on our doorsteps which offers some of the best white-water paddling in the country.

I work as an Outdoor Adventure Instructor at Haven Banks in Exeter and regularly lead a variety of adventurous activities both land and water based.

I am an Explorer leader with 1st Ipplepen Scouts and enjoy taking a lead on all outdoor activities including kayaking, raft building, Ten Tors training and summer camps.

In 2018 I completed my Paddle sport Instructor Award and have since achieved my White-water Kayak leader and Sheltered Water kayak and canoe coach qualifications.

Totnes Canoe Club has given me great opportunities to paddle and develop my skills, and I hope to be able to continue at the club helping and encouraging others to experience the pleasures of kayaking and Canoeing.
