About the Event
Nick Cunliffe of Kayak Essentials, based in Anglesey, Level 5 Sea Kayaking Coach is joining us to talk about trip planning and group dynamics and to help us to launch the new Totnes Canoe Club expedition group.
Nick will talk about all the phases involved in planning a sea kayaking trip from the planning, during a trip and afterwards. He'll give us a few ideas on lines of communication, organisation afloat, working together, supporting leaders ('followership'), avoiding conflict and problem-solving etc.
We'll then use the next hour to explore ideas about multi-day sea kayaking trips, both locally and further afield.
You're welcome to join for just Nick's presentation or the whole evening. Nick’s talk will be of interest to paddlers of all disciplines.
About the Totnes Canoe Club expedition group
This is a new group where we will work together to explore and plan trips that go beyond day paddles. These could range from where we base ourselves at campsite and do day trips from there, short overnight wild camping trips or longer expeditions where we might hire a guide.
Aspiring paddlers are welcome to join the group but to participate in the trips you will need to be paddling at old 3* Sea or Sea Kayak Award standard or higher. (If you are not at that level but are interested in progressing, email seakayaking@totnescanoeclub.org.uk).
